Winter on the west coast is long and dark and very, very wet. But in the past few days, signs of spring are beginning to appear. Breaking through the waterlogged soil are the first of the spring bulbs. Tulips, daffodils and crocuses are starting to show their colors. The sun is shining at long last. Just in time - the seasonal affective disorder was really starting to take hold.

Overheard a bit of conversation at work today.

"If it's pink and it twinkles, it's a snow fairy."

And it was a completely work-related conversation. Seriously. I like my job.

Weather's getting cooler. Summer's almost over, but I'm not ready to say goodbye. I missed winter last year, and I'm not about to wait around with open arms for it to arrive this year. Do you think if I ignore it, it will just go away? Flip flops year-round baby!!!
